Back in January 2021, Salesforce pushed out a critical update to “Turn on Lightning Experience”. Salesforce Lightning was turned on by default for thousands of businesses, whose users were operating on Salesforce Classic at the time. Whether it’s to support legacy systems, AppExchange or other integrations, or just because you haven’t been able to explore Lightning experience yet – is your organization still holding out on a full switch?
Here are two approaches to this update and why it’s time to make the most of Lightning:
1. “The Bandage”
For users who do not need to leverage Lightning Experience, you can disable it. The only users who cannot have Salesforce Lightning disabled are System administrators, but they, along with any other user with permissions, can switch between Classic and Lightning at will. The only caveat is that any user with Lightning Experience access will have it defaulted upon logging in, meaning they must click “Switch to Salesforce Classic” thereafter.
This option is a convenient temporary fix for organizations that cannot immediately roll out Lightning for the stated reasons. However, Salesforce, AppExchange, and Partners, will continue to push forward on Lightning, with decreasing support for Classic. For this unavoidable reality, we recommend…
2. “The Physician and the Procedure”
We trust healthcare professionals for a variety of reasons, with the overarching understanding that they are experts in their field. While there are many over-the-counter remedies to treat yourself for ailments, there is a point where consulting a professional is necessary. Similarly, though Salesforce has provided plenty of resources for making the transition to Lightning independently, the reality is that most orgs for global companies and enterprises are much more complex than what can be handled through basic resources. That’s where system integration partners like ForeFront can save the day.
What’s Next?
When making the move to Salesforce Lightning, a ForeFront Health Check of your org should be performed to determine risks & opportunities, just like a preoperative evaluation is performed prior to any medical procedure. With that knowledge, you and your integration partner can make the right judgements and considerations prior to performing any changes to your org. Cleanup and preventative maintenance should be performed beforehand to ensure that the Lightning upgrade can be managed smoothly and efficiently. This includes evaluating any managed packages or integrations running in your org for updates, stability, and downstream impact on integrated systems.
Once necessary evaluations are complete, ForeFront can proceed with the Lightning upgrade. The Lightning upgrade is the perfect time to make improvements to your org and processes. Much like the introduction of performance-enhancing prosthetics and artificial joints that are stronger than the bones they replace, a tactical Salesforce Lightning upgrade can take your org to not only a place of stability, but also increased levels of productivity and powerful insights.
As a Salesforce Gold Partner with over 20 years of software and system integration experience for global organizations across industries, ForeFront is equipped to guide your organization through upgrading to Salesforce Lightning the right way: considering overall org health, any-point-to-any-point integrations, industry-leading best practices, training, and user empowerment.
